The Weaponisation of Cultural Beliefs in Human Trafficking: A Webinar

To mark St. Bakhita’s Day and the World Day of Prayer for Victims of Human Trafficking, the Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles (OLA) and the Society of African Missions (SMA) will be hosting a webinar that aims to delve into the dark realities of human trafficking and explore the critical intersection of cultural beliefs with modern-day slavery.

The webinar will shine a light on how traditional oath-taking rituals and the influence of juju (magic) are exploited as control mechanisms by traffickers, trapping victims in a cycle of bondage and exploitation. By understanding these cultural dynamics, we can better equip ourselves to combat human trafficking and support victims. It took place on February 13th.
