World Day of the Poor November 17th 2024 Update from The Irish Spiritans
Pope Francis has chosen the motto “The prayer of the poor rises up to God (cf. Sir 21:5)” for the Eighth World Day of the Poor ,(http://www.evangelizatio.va/content/pcpne/en/attivita/gmdp/2024.html#:~:text=The%208th%20celebration%20of%20World,on%20Sunday%2017%20November%202024.) which will be held on November 17, 2024. This day emphasizes the importance of prayer and action for the poor, highlighting that God listens to their prayers and is eager to bring justice to them. The Pope encourages everyone to pray for and with the poor, and to engage in charitable actions that reflect the authenticity of their prayers. The event will include a Eucharistic celebration at Saint Peter’s Basilica and a lunch with the poor, organized by the Dicastery for Charity. Communities are also called to focus on the needs of the poor in their local areas through various initiatives.
As part of the Irish Spiritans 2024 resource for the World Day of the Poor, the Irish Spiritans have included an acknowledgment of SPIRASI’s 25th anniversary, celebrating this Irish Spiritan initiative dedicated to supporting victims of torture.
